  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade) Use as per package instructions for store-bought.
  • 1 cup 1 cup diced cooked ham Smoky flavor shines.
  • 1 cup 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 large 4 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups 1 ½ cups heavy cream Or half-and-half for lighter version.
  • 0.5 cup ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 0.25 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon ¼ teaspoon nutmeg A tiny pinch for warmth.
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon butter For sautéing.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and place the pie crust in a pie dish.
  2. Prep the crust according to package instructions if you’re using a store-bought one.
Cooking
  1. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they’re soft and fragrant.
  2. Toss in the diced ham and let it warm through.
  3. Evenly distribute the ham-onion mixture and shredded cheese in the pie crust.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour the creamy mixture over the fillings in the crust.
  6. Bake for about 35–40 minutes until the quiche is set and golden on top.
Serving
  1. Let it sit for a few minutes, slice it up, and serve warm.

Notes

For a variation, make a vegetarian version by omitting the ham and adding sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers. Leftover quiche can be served cold and is great for breakfast.
