Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed Use canned black beans for convenience.
  • 1/2 cup natural almond butter or peanut butter Choose according to preference.
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup or agave nectar Use agave nectar for a lower glycemic index.
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder Use unsweetened cocoa powder for best results.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract recommended.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder Ensure it's fresh for best rising.
  • 1/2 cup dairy-free chocolate chips Optional for extra chocolatey flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, combine the black beans, almond butter, maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, salt, and baking powder. Process until smooth.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips to add little pockets of chocolaty joy.
  4. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra fudgy texture, don’t over-bake them! A little gooeyness in the center is totally okay and adds to that yummy factor.
