Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the Dish
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil over high heat.
  5. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  7. Pour the sauce over the beef and let it simmer until it thickens.
Combine & Serve
  1. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine.
  2. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For added crunch, serve with stir-fried vegetables. This dish can be made with chicken or tofu for different protein options. For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes.
