Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
Frosting and Garnish
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin).
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Assembling & Serving
  1. Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of caramel sauce, and sprinkle with sea salt.
  2. Place the second cake layer on top and frost with remaining caramel sauce.
  3. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use room temperature eggs and high-quality cocoa powder. If storing, keep the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days, or refrigerate for a week.
