  • 3 pieces ripe bananas Choose very ripe bananas for maximum sweetness.
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Use maple syrup for a vegan alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour Can substitute with almond flour for gluten-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Add a splash of nutmeg for extra flavor if desired.
Optional Mix-ins
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips Add for extra crunch and flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
  3. Add the applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract; mix until combined.
  4. In another bowl, combine whole wheat flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. If desired, fold in walnuts or chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Storage: Banana bread stays fresh for 4-5 days at room temperature or up to 7 days in the fridge. For longer storage, freeze individual slices and reheat in the microwave or toast lightly.
