Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
For Rolling (Optional)
  • 1/4 cup coarse sparkling sugar for rolling

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add granulated sugar and brown sugar, mixing until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, then add sour cream or Greek yogurt and blend until smooth.
  5. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
Baking
  1. Shape the dough into about 1 1/2-inch balls and roll them in coarse sparkling sugar if desired.
  2. Place the balls on lined baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but the center is soft.
  4. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking for thicker cookies. These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for about 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
