Method
Preparation
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until combined. Form into patties.
Cooking the Patties
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
Making the Gravy
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook until caramelized.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to combine. Gradually pour in beef broth, stirring to avoid lumps. Add garlic powder and onion powder, and bring to a simmer, allowing it to thicken.
- Return hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let simmer for a few minutes.
Serving
- Serve hot with your choice of sides such as mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or steamed veggies.
Notes
Tip: Let the patties sit a little before serving to retain juiciness. Consider using ground turkey for a lighter version or add a splash of BBQ sauce for extra flavor.
