Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well blended.
- Gradually add the milk, vanilla extract, ground nutmeg, and salt. Mix until everything is combined smoothly.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle fresh berries on top.
- Place the baking dish into a larger pan and fill it with water until it reaches halfway up the sides of your custard dish (this is called a water bath!).
- Bake for about 45-55 minutes or until the edges are set but the center remains slightly jiggly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For serving, add a dollop of whipped cream or sprinkle some cinnamon on top. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days. Can be made a day in advance. Timing is key to avoid a rubbery texture. Try coconut milk for a twist or blended silken tofu for a vegan option.
