Ingredients
  

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Bring to room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Bring to room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips or chunks (60–70% cocoa) The more chocolate, the better!
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) Optional for added crunch

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, and then mix in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the dark chocolate and nuts if using.
Baking
  1. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.
  3. Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. For best results, chill the dough for thicker cookies.
