  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) You can experiment with different cheeses.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For a crispy, golden finish.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced (optional) Adds flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  3. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Heat until hot, but do NOT boil.
  4. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  7. Dot the top with butter.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with a fresh green salad or garlic bread. Leftovers keep well for 3-5 days in the refrigerator. Assemble a day ahead for convenience.
