  • 8 ounces pasta Any type of pasta works, such as penne or farfalle.
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined Can use frozen shrimp, thawed before cooking.
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced Check for gluten if gluten-free.
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning Adjust to taste for spice level.
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 medium bell pepper, diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Toasted for additional flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking the sausage.
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • for garnish Fresh parsley Adds color and freshness.

Method
 

Cooking the Pasta
  1. Cook pasta according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
Cooking the Sausage and Shrimp
  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned.
  2. Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 2-3 minutes.
Preparing the Sauce
  1. Stir in diced bell pepper, onion, and garlic; cook until veggies are soft.
  2. Pour in chicken broth and heavy cream; add Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 5-7 minutes until sauce thickens slightly.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat.
  2. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

For added crunch, pair with garlic bread or a crisp side salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
