Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pieces ripe bananas The riper the better for natural sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup sugar (brown or granulated)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce Can be substituted with nut butter.
  • 2 large eggs Can be replaced with flax eggs for a vegan version.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Helps the bread rise.
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour You can substitute half with whole wheat flour.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark) Feel free to add walnuts or pecans for crunch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth.
  3. Stir in the sugar, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture; then gently fold in the flour, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve fresh with butter or cream cheese. For extra sweetness, drizzle honey or maple syrup. Store at room temperature wrapped in plastic for 3-5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
