Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Gradually stir in the boiling water until combined (the batter will be thin).
Baking
- Pour the batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Assembly
- Once cooled, layer one cake with caramel sauce and toffee bits, top with the second cake, and repeat layering with caramel and toffee bits on top.
- Serve with whipped cream or frosting if desired.
Notes
Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Always thaw in the fridge overnight before serving.
