Preparation
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let it sit until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients.
- Mix until a dough forms and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Fold in the dark chocolate chips into the dough.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into buns.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Let rise for another 30 minutes.
- For the egg wash, beat the egg and brush it over the buns.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool before serving.
Notes
These buns are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven. Feel free to experiment with chocolate types or add dried fruit for a festive twist. For longer storage, freeze them for up to 3 months.
