Ingredients
  

For the Beef Filling
  • 2 pounds Beef (chuck or brisket)
  • 1/2 cup Soy sauce Use low-sodium for less salt.
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger (minced)
  • 2 pieces Star anise Essential for flavor.
  • 1 cup Chicken or beef broth
For Serving
  • 8 pieces Bao buns Steamed according to package instructions.
  • 1/2 cup Green onions (for garnish) Chopped.
  • 1 cup Cucumber slices (optional) For added freshness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a slow cooker, combine beef, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, star anise, and broth.
  2. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the beef is fork-tender.
  3. Shred the cooked beef and mix it in with the sauce.
Steaming Buns
  1. Steam the bao buns according to package instructions.
Assembly
  1. Fill each bao bun with the beef mixture generously.
  2. Garnish with green onions and cucumber slices, if desired.
  3. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For enhanced flavor, don’t skip the star anise. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
