  • 1/2 cup melted butter Plus 1 tablespoon cut into small pieces.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adjust according to sweetness preference.
  • 2 large pieces eggs Can substitute with flax eggs for a vegan version.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk Can use plant-based milk for a vegan version.
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Can swap for gluten-free flour.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder For a vanilla version, omit cocoa and add more sugar.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) Can experiment with different types of chocolate.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Add the melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Stir in the milk and chocolate chips if you’re feeling extra decadent.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle that over the batter, and dot with butter pieces.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few crumbs.
  2. Cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
  3. Slice into squares and enjoy!

Notes

Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for about 3-5 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for months. Reheat in the microwave for a quick treat.
